Welcome to the IUPUI Online Bloodborne Pathogens Training

What's New?

This page will contain updates and information as it relates to our Bloodborne Pathogen Program and Training.

For instance, according to the Needlestick Safety an Prevention Act of 2001, re-using blood tube holders, i.e., vacutainer barrels is now prohibited. Common practice was to remove the double-ended needle and perform the next venipuncture with a new needle in place. OSHA has revised the Bloodborne Pathogen Standard mandating phlebotomists now dispose of the blood tube holder with vacutainer needle still attached in a sharps container, thus eliminating the risk associated with needle removal.
