Biosafety is a complete program of recognition, evaluation, and control to minimize the health risk of students, faculty, staff, and the public from potential exposure to recombinant DNA and biohazardous materials that are used in the research and teaching activities at IUPUI. The program is based on government regulations, guidelines, and current professional standards.

Principal investigators have primary responsibility for implementation of IUPUI policies and procedures. Students and staff are responsible for following procedures. Planning for and implementation of biosafety must be part of every laboratory activity in which biohazardous materials are used.

The Biosafety Manager is responsible for the oversight of biological safety programs on campus.
